Hazardous Materials Worker

Hazardous materials workers identify, remove, package, transport and dispose of hazardous materials such as asbestos, mould, lead, mercury, and other biological hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Mobilize site enclosures

  • Pre-cleans work areas

  • Builds work area enclosures

  • Set up decontamination chambers and waste chutes

  • Remove & clean hazardous material

  • Dismantle work area enclosures & decontamination chambers

  • Perform post tear-down clean

  • De-mobilizes site enclosures

  • Perform routine inspections

Apprenticeship Program

3000 hours of on-the-job training, supplemented by 102 hours of in-class technical training (schedule of which can be delivered several ways).

Entrance Requirements

  • Grade 10 minimum, Grade 12 numeracy/literacy preferred

  • Minimum 18 years of age

  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence

Journeyperson Wage Rate

$39.13/Hr (2024 Provincial Average)
